Abstract
In this FYM seminar, I will discuss and demonstrate how to use ALEKS and the
many capabilities that it offers to both the student
and the instructor.  I
have been using ALEKS for over 6 years with various math courses that I have taught online.  ALEKS is a
computer learning environment (or, defined more
appropriately, an artificial intelligence system) that has been developed to
constantly re-adjust its learning plan to the individual's mastery of the
subject material.  ALEKS also offers interwoven explanations
and tutorials
for the student.  It will not let the student move on until they have mastered the previous topic.  In fact, it will make the
student re-do
material that they did not demonstrate profiency with.  The instructor is able to monitor the student's progress in real time
and if the student
"completes their pie" the student will have mastered the material.
